Dressing on the day

Looking your best

  1. Have an early night before your big day as you have a lot to get through. Chances are that you will be awake early with excitement. Not too much alcohol as you don't want to be looking and feeling hung-over!
  2. You should have somebody designated to help with your dressing, whether she is your chief bridesmaid or mother. Make sure she knows beforehand what her role is.
  3. It is best to have a cool spacious room for dressing with plenty of room to set out your gown, veil, lingerie, shoes, etc.
  4. Don't put on your gown until really necessary to avoid creasing.
  5. Put on shoes and stockings and hoop before gown. They are too difficult to manage after gown is on.
  6. Most gowns are best put on over the head, especially if you are wearing a hoop. Relax, don't struggle.
  7. Make-up and hair are best done before putting on wedding finery. Make sure you are wearing a front opening shirt for ease of removal.
  8. Dressing of flowergirls is probably best left to the last minute to avoid getting dirty marks on dress. It's hard to keep little ones still and clean.
  9. It's good to take photos during dressing to have a record of this exciting time. Your photographer can do it or you can yourselves.
  10. Don't forget your garter. It can be worn just above the knee or even below it for larger ladies.
